This machine is related to Pearl Harbor and to the Dutch Indies, but actually it was already obsolete, when for the United States the war began. Nevertheless, the Mk 1A-version was used by General Clair Chennault's American Volunteer Group (The Flying Tigers) in China. They shot down many Japanese aircraft. The P-40s were  also used over the Java Sea, in Australia and in the African desert, but rather soon replaced by other planes.

Hij heeft alles te maken met Pearl Harbor en Nederlands Indië.. Maar was eigenlijk al ouderwets, toen de oorlog begon. Toch werd de Mk 1A-versie in China gebruikt door de Amerikaanse Vrijwilligersgroep "De Vliegende Tijgers" onder commando van generaal Clair Chennault.  De Kittyhawk werd ook ingezet boven  de Javazee, in Australië en Afrika, maar al gauw vervangen door andere vliegtuigen.
