Hawker Hurricane 1 (more than 1 picture/meer dan 1 foto)
| As far as modern monoplane fighters were concerned the RAF's main
fighter in September 1939 was the Hurricane. It was in some respects inferior to the German fighters, but it was a perfect plane to intercept bombers. It had a broad undercarriage, which was an advantage in speedy take-offs on bumpy fields. It was sturdy and strong, stable as a rock even in a steep dive. The famous pilot R. Stanford Tuck (page 36) was after some 1000 hours on a Spitfire very enthusiastic about the Hurricane. Bij de moderne ééndekkers
was de Hurricane in september 1939 de belangrijkste jager. |
