The prototype of this all metal trainer (PH NBE) flew first on December 18th 1947. Testpilot was Gerben Sonderman.
The Air Force ordered 39 planes. The S 11 also found buyers in other countries. Brasil built several in license. Israel bought 40.
In 1950 this aircraft replaced the previous primary trainer Tiger Moth. Pilots made silly jokes about the wheels of the S 11: "It has shaky knees".
In september 1973 the S 11 was replaced, but they stillcan be admired on air-shows. The "Fokker Four" are famous.
The Militaire Luchtvaart Museum, Soesterberg possesses two S 11s. One of them has been lent to Aviodome, Schiphol.
