The Hs 129 was an assault aircraft. The design gave life to a twin-engined plane without special characteristics, except for the nose and the pilot seat which were heavily armoured.  The first edition (V-1) flew first in the spring of 1939. The first mass produced Hs 129 were sent to the Russian front in May 1942. The subversion Hs 129 B-2 standarised the possibility of fitting an (anti-tank) gun. This gun is quite visible on the photograph.

De Hs 129 was een aanvalsvliegtuig. Het ontwerp werd een tweemotorig toestel zonder speciale karakteristieken, behalve de neus en de cockpit, die zwaar gepantserd waren. De eerste versie (V-1) vloog voor het eerst in de lente van 1939. De eerste massaal geproduceerde Hs 129s werden naar het Oostfront gestuurd in mei 1942. De uitvoering Hs 129 B-2 maakte het standaard  inbouwen van een antitankkanon mogelijk. Op de foto is dat kanon duidelijk te zien.
