Hawker Sea Fury FB.51 (more than 1 picture/meer dan 1 foto)
This carrier borne plane was developed during World War II, and was meant to be the fastest piston powered aircraft ever built. Mr. Sidney Camm designed it in 1942 as a development of the Hawker Tempest, which was itself a development of the Typhoon. In 1943 the design was modified for a Navy specification. The Sea Fury then became a carrier borne interceptor. It served throughout the Korean War, was used in Canada, Holland, Australia and other countries. In 1951 Fokker built the Sea Fury FB.51 c/n 6310 for the MLD (Dutch Royal Navy Air Arm), reg. 6-43. It served on the aircraft carrier "Karel Doorman II". This scale model bears the registration 6-8 (F-8). The F-43 was in 1959 handed over to the Technische Universiteit in Delft and in 1971 went to Aviodome Schiphol. Nowadays it can be admired in the Military Air Museum in Soesterberg. Armament: four 20mm cannons, 12 heavy missiles or 2 bombs of 450 kg.
Bewapening: vier 20mm kanonnen, 12 zware raketten of 2 bommen van 450 kg. |
